What is SEE Summer Enrichment Camp?
The School of Environmental Education (SEE) at Camp Kappe bridges the gap between science and faith by providing youth a greater understanding of their role in the stewardship of God’s creation and its ties to their spiritual and academic growth. Our summer program is designed to enrich their former SEE experience by expanding on our program which they may have experienced in 5th grade. Our goal is to foster deeper connection and sense of wonder with nature, promote environmental awareness an stewardship and provide educational and recreational experiences in a natural setting on our 130 acres. and allowing them to explore through hands on activities in depth environmental issues while using problem solving skills and creative thinking. The camp will also provide some recreation and traditional camp activities specified in some of the sections below to provide a well balance camp experience outside of the classroom. Our hands on approach will encourage We provide youth the tools to help instill respect for the nature and dignity of the human person while continuing to evangelize the mission of the church and its importance on their daily lives.
Who may attend and what is the cost?
The weeklong camp experience is for Catholic youth who will be entering the 6th - 8th grade.
The cost is $750.00 a person which includes all activities and meals.
Where is Camp Kappe?
Camp Kappe is located in Plantersville, Texas about 58 miles from downtown Houston, and sits on 130 beautiful acres of wood forest and pastures. Designated as a center for youth retreats, camping, and spiritual-growth programs, Camp Kappe is operated by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. It serves as a home for weekend retreats for youth and young adults. Camp Kappe is also the home for the School of Environmental Education (SEE) an accredited TCCB-ED school for Catholic school 5th graders within the Archdiocese and the dioceses of Austin and Beaumont. A peaceful chapel provides space for Mass and prayer, while a recreational center featuring pool table, ping pong, foosball, air hockey, shuffle board and an outdoor pavilion with basket, volleyball, soccer and community building games. Additional activities include archery, canoeing, a scenic nine-hole disc golf course, and nature trails for exploring the woods and observing wildlife.
