Bishop Anthony Basil Taylor has been bishop of the Diocese of Little Rock, AR since 2008. He was raised in Ponca City, OK and is the oldest of 7 brothers and sisters. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City in 1980 following studies at the University of Oklahoma, St. Meinrad College Seminary and the Gregorian University in Rome. In 1989 he earned a PhD in Biblical Theology from Fordham University in New York. Bishop Taylor has been active in Hispanic ministry during much of his priesthood and is a strong advocate for the human rights of immigrants. He was the Episcopal Delegate for the cause of canonization of a fellow Oklahoma priest, Blessed Stanley Rother, whose witness has inspired Bishop Taylor throughout his ministry. Blessed Stanley was martyred at the Oklahoma mission in Guatemala in 1981 and beatified in 2017—the only officially declared US born martyr and the first US born priest to be beatified.
