Claire Wills Shynett spent more than four decades as a health care professional advocating for individuals living with mental wellness concerns & intellectual development disabilities. My work focused on empowering these individuals to live with dignity and become active members of their communities.
I served as a Board Director the National Alliance on Mental Illness Greater Houston (NAMI). Presently, I served as a community mentor for the University of Houston and M.D. Anderson Church Program ( UHAND) addressing health disparities in diverse communities. Recommended by Charlene Katarina and approved by Cardinal DiNardo, I had the opportunity to have a voice on the National Catholic Partnership on Disability Mental Health Committee for 6 years. Presently, I served as the Association of Catholic Mental Health Ministers Houston Chapter Coordinator. Recently, I completed my term as Board Chair for Special Kids Inc. Under the leadership of Melissa Alvarez and the the other and the other members of the Archdiocese Disabilities Committee were breaking new ground for People with Disabilities with caring approach to make “ ALL” feel welcome in the church.
